One PhD student position is available in Dr. Nogueira's group
(www.mobiochem.com) at the Autonomous University of Madrid in the field of simulation of biological systems.
-Project: The research of the recruited applicant will focus on the theoretical study of the mode of action of the anticancer Pt(IV)-based compounds, which are employed in chemotherapy treatments. The mechanistic steps that will be investigated include the permeation of the drug through lipid bilayers, hydrolysis, binding to DNA, and interaction with proteins. Moreover, it is very likely that the PhD student participates in other research projects.
-Duration and start date: The candidate should ideally start on September 2019 and will be hired for 3 years.
-Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have, by the date of appointment (September, 2019), a Bachelor degree (3 years) and a post graduate degree (e.g. MSc) in Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline. Several theoretical methods, such a molecular dynamics, quantum chemistry calculations, QM/MM, and enhanced-sampling techniques (e.g., umbrella sampling), will be employed. Specific knowledge on any of these methods is welcome but not required, and it is less important than a great enthusiasm for theoretical and computational chemistry and for working in an interdisciplinary environment.
-Salary: Gross salary (before applying national income taxes) is 18300 euros/year and includes Spanish Social Security and public healthcare.
-Funding: The Comunidad de Madrid regional government provides funding for this job from the call to attract research talent to work in research groups at the Madrid region (Ref. 2018-T1/BMD-10261). The duration of the contract is conditioned to the positive evaluation of the project in the monitoring phase, as regulated in the article 25 of the call guidelines (BOCAM order 2273/2018).
-Application: Applications must be submitted to Juanjo Nogueira at juan.nogueira(at)uam.es by May 30th 2019.
