Sorry I won't be able to come, but I do have fond memories of Ivor. I got to know him quite well when we were both on the Atalaya Tours trip to mines in Mexico in 1998. It was then that I learnt he had a heart pacemaker.
Years later, when there was a NAMHO meeting near Machynlleth I mentioned to Ivor that my brother-in-law had been told he needed a pacemaker and was worried sick about it. Ivor volunteered he would talk to him
and gave me his phone number. My brother-in-law rang Ivor and Ivor's reassurance saved the day. A really gracious and rightly well-admired human being. One of the best.

Ivor sadly passed away last year and was involved in a lot of aspects of
Mining History, including setting up of Museums and influencing at national
level many of the activities we now enjoy. Ivor started as a barrow boy in
a Shropshire Coal Pit and wealth of knowledge was gained has he rose
through the ranks of Colliery management.. Later he worked for Teford
Development, filling in 100's of mine shafts , but carefully recording and
getting preservation of features, he later moved to Yorkshire where he
carried out similar functions . He was a member of the Shropshire Clubs,
Ironbridge Friends,, Northern Mines Research Society, .Welsh Mines Society
and a director of PDHMS ,.

He was a major influence on the preservation of Oddball . a walking
dragline and the restoration of St Aidens opencast site where it was used
and now sits for all to see..
