You are very welcome to participate in all the activities. The Institute also offers resources for visiting scholars and pre- and postdoctoral students. The Institute “López Piñero” for the History of Medicine and Science (IHMC) is a research center of the University of Valencia. The Institute organizes master and doctorate programs in "History of science and scientific communication." It also develops general public activities (exhibitions, cinema, etc.) and research seminars. The center is located in a restored eighteenth-century palace (Palau de Cerveró) in which is the historical library with an extraordinary collection of bibliographical resources, particularly medical books since sixteenth-century. The center also gathers the scientific and medical instruments collection and organizes permanent and temporary exhibitions.

XIV Meeting of the Catalan Society for the History of Science and Technology  (SCHCT)

27-29 October 
Venue: Universitat Jaume I de Castelló, UJI. 
With the participation of different research groups to be integrated tin the new Intitute López Piñero. Coordinator of the organizing committee: Carmel Ferragud (IHMC). The plenary conference will be in charge of Naomi Oreskes, professor of the University of Harvard (USA), and author of the book: “Merchants of Doubt”.


Seminars “Artificial disasters”

Three talks (Wednesdays) and three cinema sessions (Thursdays) during November. 
Presentations given by members of different departments and universities.

* Science and modernity: The Spanish Generation of 1914:

November-March
Exhibition by Acción Cultural AC/E i l. Curator: Antonio López Vega. 
Venue: Faculty of Pharmacy (Campus of Burjassot). 
Organized by Faculty of Pharmacy with the collaboration of Group Gadea (Program Prometeo II/2014/015, GV), UMH, UA and l’IHMC.  


* The Sounds of Medicine

November 2016 to March 2017. Exhibition, movie series and seminars on the history of stethoscope and other methods for diagnosis in medicine.

GRANTS LÓPEZ PIÑERO

López Piñero grants for the academic year 2015-2016 have been awarded to two former students of the master on history of science and science communication: Teresa Navarro and Lucia Sapiña. These scholarships support their participation in the meeting of SCHCT de Castelló. The IHMC will offer new grants during the next year to support other activities related to history of science and Technology. The Institute also offers support to visiting scholars and pre- and post-doctoral students who want to use its library, museum and other resources. Contact: [log in to unmask]
