We hope you might be interested in attending the following symposium.
Pharmaceuticals and Society: Power, Promises & Prospects
Friday 16th December 2011, 10.30am -5.30pm
University of Warwick
This one day symposium aims to bring together a range of researchers in medical sociology and STS to take stock and critically examine, from a variety of different perspectives, the role of pharmaceuticals in society and the nature and dynamics of pharmaceutical futures. There will be two paper sessions and ample time will be set aside for open discussion and networking. Topics that will be discussed include: The science and politics of pharmaceutical regulation; Trust and the pharmaceutical industry; Pharmaceutical expansion/ excessive medicine use; Pharmaceuticals and the environment; Use of over-the-counter pharmaceutical products; Pharmaceutical enhancement; and the Politics of personalised medicine. The event organisers will close the day with their reflections on future agendas and areas for further collaborative work.
Confirmed speakers include: John Abraham, Patrick Brown, Joan Busfield, Mike Calnan, Catherine Coveney, Jonanthan Gabe, Adam Hedgecoe, Paul Martin, Sujatha Raman, Kate Weiner, Catherine Will and Simon Williams.
This symposium is supported by a grant from the Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness.
