Dear List,
Could someone enlighten me please:
I recently saw a patient who had had a partial discectomy and
laminectomy following loss of Ankle jerk and calf muscle power.
Several months later this person and I were talking, and he noted
that whilst he had full power in his calf muscles, he still didn't think
he had an AJR. Curiously I tested him, and indeed he was able
to repeat a single leg calf raise 6 times without loss of height or
fatigue, but had a significantly diminished AJR.
In thinking of the anatomincal structure of ventral and dorsal roots
I am at a loss as to how this may happen?
Surely there is not selective compression of gamma fibres.
Can someone with a neurophysiological insight greater than mine
please help me and my patient to understand this?
Thanks guys,
