I have to disagree with the concept of the board being used for "transport".
It is an extrication device. patients are often left on a board to transport
because of lack of people to do log roll in pre-hosp environment.
A plea- do not put people back on a board to transfer them - use a vacuum
mattress.
Vac matt
gives better support ( spine is curved board is not)
spreads the load ( large contact area) so less pressure sore risk
and is more comfortable
P.S have you looked at research on log rolls. One study of two patients and
one cadaver Journal of Trauma. 27(5):525-31, 1987 May. which showed it
was the most hazardous stage in management of thoraco-lumbar instability.
