Dear Vivian,
did you take a look at winMAX? It's really a very userfriendly program, easy to
learn and easy to handle without loosing the capacity of doing a sophisticated
data analysis (powerfull retrieval tools!). At the same time you keep always
in contact with you original text - it's just one mouseclick away.
You have a very cleary structured and easy to handly interface ( no windows
hiding each other away) without loosing analytic possibilities. Just compare the
software packages. winMAX exists since 10 years (of course better and better
from version to version!) - it's one of the mostly used packages in Germany,
Switzerland, Netherlands and Austria and since some time also quiete well used
in GB, US and the english speaking world. Since September 98 winMAX is
distributed by Sage/Scolari. I hope I could motivate you to see our website
(www.winmax.de) - you can download a free demoversion
from there (it's a full programm version, just the save & export functions are
cut off ). You can also send an email to Scolari, they will send you the
demoversion plus different infos to the programm on a cdrom
([log in to unmask]). The program comes with a very comprehensive manual and
of course you also have an online help function.
To finish, I quote Jerry White, Professor for Sociology, Univ. of Western
Ontario, who gave the following feedback: "As a new user of Winmax I am still
finding exciting and useful applications within the program. Winmax is very
user friendly without giving up the versitility needed in sociological study.
The ability to work with qualitative and quantitative data when I need to is a
real asset. It really shows that the developers had an intimate knowledge of
sociological inquiry. I highly recommend WinMax."
Concerning the loss of data, which one of the users of winMAX told about in the
qualsoft list a few days ago: We had two users who had this problem. Both of
them didn't write archive files - as it is strongly recommanded in the manual.
The reasons for the loss of data could not be found in winMAX (we have hundreds
of researchers working with it for years and we did not succeed in reproducing
the problem) - there are multiple causes you can think of when such problems
occure: a virus, hard drive problems etc. Anyway it should absolutely
impossible to loose the work of weeks, so we reacted and will release an upgrade
within the next days which will have a change in the program. There forcely be
written an archive (the user will not have to think of that), so that a minimal
loss of data is guaranteed even if you have severe problems.
If you have futher questions, please don't hesitat to contact us!
In case you take a look at winMAX I would be happy to get a feedback.
Best regards
Anne
