Hi all
Just a note to say the responses to "ABs say the darndest things" (Jim
Davis 1999) are an amusing diversion (if not a sad indictment).
This is a comment heard more than once by parents of institutionalised
adults when they visited their adult children who had intellectual disabilities.
After scanning a room full of people with disabilities going about their
everyday institutionalised eccentricities, the parent would look at me
wistfully and say with absolute heartfelt profundity - "they each have their
own individual little personalities don't they?"
Sometimes a new residential staff member would say something very
similar as some sort of consoling comment. They made it sound more like
a lost dog's home.
Best regards
