Dear all
You can't fail to have noticed that there has been a major increase
in traffic on Geo-tectonics over the last couple of weeks. For some
people this is a welcome change, for others it may be irksome and so
it may be time remind you of the existence of a digest option.
If you select this option you are no longer sent each message
separately but they are put together into a single message which is
sent each night, or when 20 messages have accumulated if that occurs
first.
To set this facility send the message
set geo-tectonics digest
to
[log in to unmask]
To return to normal the command is
set geo-tectonics nodigest
I need also point out some advice which mailbase give for people
using digest, the following is extracted from the Mailbase user guide
-----------------------------------------------------------
Replying to digests
When you reply to a digest you must consider other list members and:
Think about whether you want to email the entire list (the default), or just the sender of the original message.
Change the subject field appropriately, as a message saying "Re: Digest" is not meaningful
Only quote the relevant message, or message part
-----------------------------------------------------------
I would particularly emphasise the last point - digest messages can
be quite long. If you are in the habit of including the original
message in any reply you intitiate, you must edit it to the relevant
portions otherwise the whole list will be sent a repeat of the text
of up to 20 messages
Cheers
John
