I completely agree that LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bi, trans, intersexed) rights and disability rights are linked. In my office we joke that the work we really want to do is Freak Law, but that that discipline is not yet recognized. Anyway, advocating for the rights of sexual minorities and PWDs (overlapping groups) means dealing with issues of difference (often "real" differences -- a kind of difference that is less frequently raised by other civil rights movements) and fear/stigma/steotypes. It means trying to get society to stop discriminating on the basis of difference, and also trying to get society to change/modify itself to accommodate PWDs and people who are LGBTI.
