I wonder if anyone out there can help?
As some of you already know I am undertaking a 3-4 year monitoring
project oriented around the restoration of a small partially drained
valley mire [NVC : M21, M14, M24/5].
The restoration basically involves the damming of drainage ditches,
thereby raising water levels across the mire.
The core of my research proposal is short-term vegetation response to
the restoration works.
I have already begun monitoring the spatial distribution of vegetation
from fixed sampling stations, but also need to set up an effective
method for assessing species productivity response; esp. biomass (cut,
dry and weigh).
I have gone through various texts but have not found any references
(beyond the theoretical) to small-scale (above-ground, annual) biomass
monitoring studies, nor how one deals with difficult vegetation (as
found in Molinietum).
Has anyone done this sort of thing themselves, or know of someone who
has?
ANy help would be gratefully received.
