Old favourites:
The Long Trail
To the True Romance
The Explorer
The Fabulists
The Love Song of Har Dyal
The Sea and the Hills (especially the bits in Kim)
Late came the God (though I agree with T.S. Eliot it doesn't really work
without the story, 'The Wish House')
New favourites:
The Way through the Woods
Harp Song of the Dane Women
If -
(because all three of them become more amazing the harder you look at
them).
I used to have a superstition about The Long Trail. Three times I have
set out in a ship to live for a time in a country I'd never seen before.
I 'd read the poem in my bunk on the first night at sea, and each time it
brought me luck. Or something did!
Michael Jefferson - please, which L'Envoi is your favourite? There were
several poems called by that name, though all but one were rechristened in
Definitive Verse. Lisa Lewis
