The Sustainable Development Research Centre at the University of British
Columbia is engaged in a five year project called the Georgia Basin Futures
Project. The project will explore how to reconcile social, ecological and
economic imperatives with the bioregion surrounding Vancouver and Victoria.
Three strands of current research include the development of a game-like
model which allows the public and stakeholders to generate development
scenarios, a large scale public consultation process and research into the
policy implications of sustainable development. The last strand of research
is subdivided into research on 'resocialization' and on dematerialization
(industrial ecology, eco-efficiency and environmental technology). Full
details of the project are available at www.sdri.ubc.ca.
A number of posts will be available in the coming two months and will be
advertised shortly. Post-graduate positions at masters and PhD level are
available two topics:
1. exploring the potential for industrial ecology within the Georgia Basin
incorporating company data and geographic data;
2. a industrial-funded post funded by a project partner to explore
alternative energy futures.
Expressions of interested are invited immediately and an formal selection
process will be announced shortly.
