Southeast Asian Studies Programme
The Southeast Asian Studies Programme of the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences seeks applications for two open rank positions (Assistant,
Associate or Full Professor). Candidates should have an active research
programme focused on one or more countries of Southeast Asia in one of the
following disciplines:
Economic/Political Geography, Political Economy, Economics, Political
Science, or Environmental Studies.
A PhD is required at the time of appointment and applicants must have a
strong commitment to quality teaching and research. A strong international
publication record, or evidence of the potential to develop one, is
required. Applications from citizens of Southeast Asian countries are
especially welcomed.
Successful candidates are expected to take up their appointments in the
2000/2001 academic year, which commences in July 2000. In order to
facilitate an appointment by this time, applications are requested by
December 31st 1999.
The Southeast Asian Studies Programme adopts a multi-disciplinary approach
to the study of the culture, economics, geography, history, politics and
sociology of the region. A key feature of the Programme is its Southeast
Asian Language modules. Students majoring in Southeast Asian Studies have a
choice of studying either Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese or Thai. The
Programme also has an active postgraduate component including a
coursework-based Masters in Southeast Asian Studies and research-based
programmes at the Masters and PhD levels.
