Trish, I would like to suggest that, as you are interested in "supervision"
of staff, not students, you should look in Management books related to
health care (Chairman of CSP Council has edited such as book "Management in
PT", Jones, R.J. 1991, Radcliffe Medical press, ISBN 1 870905 81 4 )
Also this is what nurses call "mentoring" and they have a wealth of info
about it. Either ask a local nursing colleage or contact the ENB or RCN.

Subject: clinical supervision
Thanks for the replies so far!! Yes I am a physio and I work for an NHS
trust.
The sort of information I am looking for concerns the "supervision" of
qualified staff , not particularly of students. I appreciate that the word
supervision is perhaps not the best terminology but is the term used in this
particular module that I am studying. By supervision what apparently is
meant is some form of promoting reflective practice, of ensuring that
standards are being met and of providing support for continued professional
development.
What I am interested in is if other people have got "supervision "
programmes up and running . Clinical supervision is not the same as
appraisal in that it is not necessarily the manager doing the supervising it
could be a colleague or a mentoring system. What are other people doing and
what works well? Are people keeping professional portfolios ( seems to be
linked to keeping evidence of your continued professional development and
your ability to reflect on your practice.)
