I think one problem is that we have phenomena like secondary
hyperalgesia and other central mechanisms that can make a mess of ones
differential diagnoastics. Also, as I believe is what Kevin was getting
at in the beginning of your discussion, a technique may work beautifully
even during tough scientific scrutiny, but that still doesn't mean that
our theory of why it works is correct.
