"The Penguin Book of Latin Verse" has a text and translation of the
hymn on p. 120. This excellent book, edited by Frederick Brittain, is
well worth obtaining. Besides classical Latin texts, it has poems by
Ambrose, Prudentius, Boethius, Venantius Fortunatus, Alcuin, the
Cambridge Songs, Abelard, Adam of St Victor, the Archpoet, and many
other medieval and renaissance writers. Indeed, it comes right up to
the twentieth century. I once wrote to Penguin asking them to reprint
it, but received no reply. May I suggest that listmembers bombast [I
meant to type "bombard" but the typo is so apt as to merit "stet"] them
with requests to reprint, offering to use it as a course book?
oriens.
