A spell-checker certainly didn't help my student who wrote that the
Brothers of the Commons Life were a religious group who "lived without
vowels." Nor did it help the student of a colleague who maintained that
the Reformation was bad for women because "there are no Protestant
nouns."
BTW, the most interesting thing to me, when my students address the
issue of predestination, is their attitude towards it. I often get
answers along the lines of "predestination means that, since before the
beginning of time, God has ordained who will be saved and there is
nothing an individual can do about it, even if he does NOT want to be
saved."
