We have public access PCs in many of our libraries and other corporate sites, featuring particularly the council's web-site, the library web catalogue and the Welsh Assembly site. As these are interactive sites, with an emphasis on public consultation, it is important that it is possible to use an email link from each PC to respond. However, replies cannot be returned to a public access PC because there will be no way of identifying the intrended recipient (Hotmail is a separate issue altogether). At present we have rather ad-hoc arrangements devised by our IT Section to ensure this and to prevent the public from accessing email in the name of the council for other purposes. We are sure that there must be more efficient and secure ways of doing this and wonder what other library services do.
Any tips would be much appreciated.
