RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN HEALTH PROMOTION

Applications are invited from postgraduates with experience in health promotion
research and practice for a one year post designed to underpin the
implementation of the Newcastle Healthy Medical School Project - a health
promotion strategy designed create a "health promoting medical school", based
on the World Health Organisation's "settings" approach. The post will be based
in the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health and supervised by Dr Martin
White, Senior Lecturer in Public Health. The intiative forms part of a growing
programme of health promotion research within the University.
You will have extensive practical experience of health promotion and some
research training and/or experience and will:
. support the implementation of the Newcastle Healthy Medical School Project
with an academically sound approach, particularly in research-based policy
development, implementation of effective interventions, and evaluation of the
initiative;
. achieve wide dissemination of the initiative through presentation and
publication of the outcomes and principles derived;
. develop applications for funding for both health policy interventions and
original research in health promotion;
. undertake original research in the field of health promotion; . contribute to
undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
. become a member of the multidisciplinary, cross-departmental Health Promotion
Research Group.
The post is offered full-time on the RA1B or RA1A pay scales ( stlg16,286 -
stlg24,479), according to qualifications and experience, with the anticipated
maximum starting salary at stlg20,867 (which is point 10 on the RA1A scale).
Part-time work or job-sharing will be considered.
Secondment of a health promotion specialist from the NHS will be considered,
for which an honorary academic appointment at an appropriate level may be
offered.
