If you haven't heard already you may like to know that Encyclopaedia
Britannica has launched a free service on the web (paid for by
advertising banners). This promises to be a very useful resource for
teachers and students of economics and business. According to the
story in yesterday's Guardian, there are plans to build an archive of
the best articles from magazines and periodicals such as The
Economist.
The URL you need is
http://www.britannica.com
and will soon be available at
http://www.britannica.co.uk
However...
Actually, right now, all you get is
"The recent launch of the free Britannica.com site, designed to be the
most trusted source of information, learning and
knowledge on the Internet, has created such an
enormous volume of traffic that the company’s
servers have experienced a temporary slowdown.
We apologize to everyone who has been unable to
access Britannica.com. The tremendous response
to Britannica.com has created a tidal wave of
activity on our site, and we are working hard to
make the site available as quickly as possible."
