Hello All,
I was just catching up on my e-mail...
I came across this e-mail by Lennard Davis and was wondering why it is
considered insulting to be disabled? I'm not saying that LD feels this way,
but so many people are quick to say sorry about disabilities. I have several
Deaf friends and they all say they are disabled. This only means their
environment is not accessible.
I often get told, after someone has known me a while, that they don't
consider me a disabled person. I say, but I am and I'm proud of being of
short stature (dwarf). I think what they are trying to say is that they are
comfortable with my difference. I know they are only trying to be nice, but
I just want people to know that disability is ok and just a part of life.
How do other feel about this issue?
Judith
