Colleagues
ATLS is just not delivering the goods in the UK. I don't care what anyone
says it is true. All new SHO's should be taught on a recognised course over
a 3 day period so that they have a logical system to manage the first few
critical minutes of a major trauma case. This should be mandatory before
they take up a post in A & E.
Some of them are now waiting so long they will be drawing their pension book
before they get on such a course. Carlos should not have to do a watered
down course but the real thing.
I don't want to sound controversial. When it started in the UK they were
too exclusive and did not culture enough instructors, hence the current
shortage. I do appreciate that they have to maintain standards but they have
gone OTT.
However they will have to get their act together or someone else will take
over and in my opinion probably do it a lot better. Probably get overseas
faculties to come over or Docs will go to the USA to get certified.
The RCS have no difficulty in running the surgical skills courses and they
deliver the goods throughout the country. I have no axe to grind it is just
that they will have to get their act together.
Sorry chaps there goes my merit award and promotion
