5th EDINBURGH CLINICAL TRIALS COURSE - ECTC 2000
Dates: 16 to 18 February 2000 inclusive
Venue: University of Edinburgh Conference Centre, Edinburgh, UK
The course will chiefly focus on the conduct of randomised controlled
clinical trials, and will also cover some aspects of their design. Its
practical approach will take you step by step from getting started
through all the stages of a well run RCT. You will learn how to ask
the right question, review the existing literature, pilot the design,
and build a multi-disciplinary team. You will hear about funding,
evidence based methods of follow-up and how to design trial materials
that work. Workshops will help you to get started, explore
randomisation methods, keep the trial going and establish and maintain
good data management procedures.
The course organising committee are all members of the Neurosciences
Trials Unit at Edinburgh University and the committee is chaired by
Professor Peter Sandercock. The Unit has co-ordinated a number of
large, randomised, multi-centre clinical trials, and the lectures and
workshops will reflect the Unit’s wide research experience. Invited
speakers will contribute their expertise on statistics, evidence-based
methods of data collection and how to overcome the practical
difficulties of setting up large, efficient trials.
Who should attend?
Those who have taken part in clinical trials before and now wish to
broaden and consolidate their knowledge.
Those who have no experience as yet but intend to play a part in
running randomised controlled clinical trials in the future.
Those who have taken part in others’ trials and now wish to run their
own.
The cost of the course will be 310 pounds sterling for registration
before 1 December 1999. After that date there will be a late booking
fee. There will be an additional charge for hotel accommodation and
the course dinner.
The number of participants will be limited to 30 and early
registration is advised. For more information and booking details
