Subject: Query: Summer Camps and convalescent homes
I am working on the history of asthma diagnosis and treatment in the U.S.
since 1850. In my work I have come across a fascinating set of
institutions -- residences, convalescent homes, and summer camps -- for
asthmatics. The first ones started in the 1930s, and their number expanded
in the 1950s and 1960s.
I have been looking for secondary literature on summer camps, convalescent
homes, and other comparable institutions for children and have found very
little. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what I should read
for comparison with my materials.
Many thanks,
Carla
