Hi Graham
Thanks for the reply. I wonder which is worse (for civil liberties) -
an innacurate system, whereby lots of innocent persons are stopped;
or a very accurate one where certain faces - perhaps not of criminals
but of those whose views just arent "establishment" eg peaceful roads
protestors, as you said, - just can never escape. I divnt know other
cities had it too - Whilst reseraching in Newcastle on Tyne recently,
in the Scotswood area I saw high cameras, on 30 foot poles, well
protected against climbers by down pointing wire etc, this was a semi
derelict area, prone perhaps to riots like they had up there in
meadowell in the 80s. Could these too be a face recognition system?
We seem to be noticing these possible erosions of privacy/civil
liberties peacemeal. What about the well publicised new speed cameras
that take your number plate over a mile or so, then compute your
average speed. This means your car can now be tracked across the UK.
With 1) Face recognition 2) car recognition, 3) Your employment
history , convictions etc are on a database, for, so is said,
employers to check out new applicants, 4) your N I number,
universally available across the UK...Just when to the telescreens go
up in our houses, Mr Orwell?
