the MLA has published some guidelines, which I think are pretty
useful. It seems to me that the main data that must be included
(in addition to author and title) is the full URL and the date of
publication, ie that last date the site was updated. Most sites print
this on the homepage, but Netscape allows you to check the
period of last update by looking at the page's information section
(found under the VIEW pulldown menu). IE probably allows the
same, but I make it a policy not to know too much about this
application, spawn of the devil that it is. :-)
