Lisa's list of what texts RK was writing on is most interesting, and seems
to me to reinforce the point that 'ABC' is in essence a tract against
democracy, and against radicalism. After all, 'The Mother Hive', another
political fable, is surely a direct attack on the insidious effects on the
body politic of liberal ideas. I am encouraged in this thought by the sheer
brutality of his account of the 'Serviles' - an extraordinary expression to
use, incidentally - as insane, dangerous, shameless, fit only to be
electrically corralled, wiped out, or - perhaps a worse fate - to be held up
to ridicule in the music halls of 21st century London.
I agree about the wonderful bits, though !
