BTW, in Irish hagiography, the saints do not hesitate to humiliate
God by "fasting against" the deity. In Irish law, if someone failed to
supply justice to you, one alternative was to sit outside his home and not
eat--the inspiration of the hunger strikes of IRA interned--until the target
was shamed into granting your request. The saints took it to another level.
