With apologies for cross-postings, what follows are details of
research posts available in the near future at Portsmouth University.
1. We have funding for two posts at research fellow level starting in
the autumn. We are looking for candidates who have completed or are
about to complete a PhD. The salaries will be in the range,
£16-22,000. One post will be looking at changing mental well-being
using the BHPS; the other will be examining the links between social
capital and health. We are seeking people who have good database
skills to manipulate the data, and good modelling skills to analyse
it. Both posts will be located at the University of Portsmouth, and
regular contact with colleagues in London will be involved.
2. We have a bursary for postgraduate research in
health geography leading to a PhD, and one other bursary currently
vacant which is not earmarked for a specific topic. These cover
maintenance (£6600 p.a.) and UK / EU postgraduate fees. I'd be
particularly grateful if British colleagues would draw these to the
attention of students who have been unsuccessful in the recent ESRC
and British Academy competitions and who are still seeking research
opportunities. We have successfully supervised several PhDs in
geographical aspects of health and health policy, on topics involving
a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
