>Presumably the guy in the tree was Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10). The encounter
with Zacchaeus immediately precedes the entry into Jerusalem in Luke's
account.
>The Supple Doctor.
Thank you, S.D.
I *knew* I should have done just a *bit* more work on the iconography of that
portal.
Not much presumtion involved, it would seem:
(Luke 19:4) And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree (in arborem
sycomorum) to see him: for he was to pass that [way].
It looks like the Étampes Master had a bit of trouble conceiving a sycomore
[that's "sickamore" in Indianer--or "sickymore" in Southern Indianer--btw]
tree.
Whilst I have you here on the _pons_,
I note no reference to garments being cast on anything but the colt (19:35) in
Luke's account.
Is there a textual basis for the garment tosser?
