I was watching Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory the other day and
there's a scene near the end where a Catholic priest gives last rites to
three prisoners, saying "In nomine patris, et filii, et spiritui
sancti."
My challenge to you all--can you find movies in which the above formula
is rendered correctly? I've only ever heard it correctly once or twice,
but dozens of manglings. Perhaps we could compile a list of misdeclined
Latin in American popular culture? I've heard "In nomine patri et filii
et spiriti sancti," "In nomine patrus et filius et spiritus sanctus,"
and so on.
Go forth, and report your findings!
