You can palpate the psoas just inside the ASIS if you hold the hip in 90
degrees flexion - test by asking patient to pull knee to chest....of course
you will have to sort out your sartorius (att. to the ASIS and just below)
and rectus femoris (AIIS & just above the acetabulum) - but you should
actually be just above these. You need to palpate through the abs - OK with
practice.
With great respect I beg to differ from Palastanga.
You can actually also be really mean and palpate the mid part of the medial
belly just distal and lateral to the umbilicus - yukky and uncomfortable
though.
