Lately we've been getting a large number of
requests for referrals to therapists skilled in EMG
biofeedback for incontinence in Europe and in
South Africa. If you are engaged in this work, you
should make sure that your practice is known to
those who get these requests and can steer
patients to you.
One place is the "International Incontinence
Professionals Registry, on our website,
at http://www.incontinet.com. All listings are
free of charge, and you can write a good sized
paragraph describing your philosophy, training,
and experience.
Another source of referrals you may not have
thought about is the manufacturer of your incontinence
biofeedback treatment system. Many people just
buy their equipment, and never really get to know
the maker. That's unfortunate, because many
patients hear or read about a particular brand and
then contact the manufacturer to find out who is
using that in their town.
If you have "competition" in your geographical area,
the manufacturers are likely to refer inquiries to the
person they know best. Is that you? (If you buy
through a distributor, you may not even be known
to the manufacturer -- but it is the manufacturer who
gets the inquiries.)
Also, the central offices of the major clinical
organizations get lots of telephone inquiries.
[In the USA, it's the biofeedback group (AAPB)
and nursing (SUNA, WOCN) and physical
therapy group (Women's Health Section of APTA)
that get the calls.] You might consider sending
an informational letter and office brochure to the
relevant professional organizations. In my
experience they are only too happy to have
resources available when people inquire.
Hope this helps...
