National Curriculum review
--------------------------
LIC has responded to the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority's
National Curriculum review consultation. The Commission has welcomed
the emphasis placed throughout on the use and evaluation of
information sources, but also warns of the risk of reinforcing in
pupils' minds the idea that information equates to technology, and
proposes the inclusion of more advanced information handling skills
into the new Citizenship foundation subject. The LIC response is
available on the website at:

Freedom of Information and Modernising Government
-------------------------------------------------
The LIC has responded simultaneously to the draft Freedom of
Information Bill and consultation on draft legislation, issued by the
Home Office, and to the Cabinet Office policy statement Modernising
Government, believing that the two policy initiatives are closely
linked. The responses are available on the website at:
http://www.lic.gov.uk/publications/responses/respjy991.html
