I'm not sure. The use of "Contextual Design" that I'm most familiar
with does involve taking the context into account in solving the
problem, but is still basically a third-party solution (the designer is
not the person who is in the context, but someone who is observing the
context and the people within it). Alexander is much more attuned to the
notion of the people in the context figuring out the solutions for
themselves, guided by a knowledge base that is formed by the hidtory of
the context.
I think Alexander would consider this an important distinction.
