I would argue that disability is an ideology, but more importantly
applying the term disability to a person or identifying with the
disability community are ideological acts. When someone is described as
disabled it carries with it the implication of inferior and of not needing
a fair share of resources. When someone identifies as a person with a
disability it is a statement of solidarity with others so identified.
