MODELLER (ref 421/99) & RESEARCHER (ref 422/99)
The Department of Planning and Landscape, University of
Manchester is seeking a systems modeller and a researcher for two
leading-edge sustainability projects to be conducted through the
newly established Centre for Urban and Regional Ecology (CURE).
The first project is the 'Regional Interactive Sustainability
Atlas' (RISA), supported by the EPSRC Sustainable Cities
Programme. This is a pioneering application of IT for
interactive modelling and visualisation of regional futures. The
second project is the 'Resource Flow Audit' (REFA), supported by
the'Biffaward' landfill fund, a detailed material metabolism
analysis of the North West region. Both projects involve working
with active research and stakeholder groups and are being
conducted in partnership with regional agencies in the North
West.
CURE is being established as a Centre with a leading-edge
portfolio of projects in urban and regional sustainability,
eco-restoration and landscape futures. We are seeking
self-starting and multi-disciplinary people, with a high level of
technical and communication skills. GIS experience is essential
for the modeller post.
The posts are on the Research scale £15735 to £23651 p.a
depending on skills and experience for 18-24 months with likely
continuation.
