Kim Phillips et al., eds, _Young Medieval Women_ (Sutton, Gloucester, 1999), has
some references to white/virginity/purity/weddings, but, like you say, at high
social levels for weddings (and perhaps making an assumption about white/wedding
). The pieces by Kim Phillips and Joanna Chamberlayne briefly address the issue.
