the last work i have seen from Moore on the heresies of the early 11th cn,
is that they tell us little to nothing about popular religiosity, they are
really names that various factions within the elite are calling each other.
this obviously disappoints me (who feel that when you have virtually no
documents talking about popular heresy for 500 years and then get dozens of
texts in a 50-yr period, that you finally can start thinking about popular
interest in xnty). if this is an unfair summary of his work, i apologize.
i am writing a response to a paper he gave in australia last summer, so
when i reread and write the response, i may send in a correction (nuancing)
of my brief summary.
