To all who were (unintentionally) misled by my first message:
'Learned Helplessness' (illustrated by by Martin Seligman and colleagues) is
the theory that if an individual or group faces a seemingly uncontrollable
situation, especially when faced with 'powerful others', they explain the
cause of it in a pessimistic manner and act passively within it. Thus, they
'learn' to be helpless.
I feel that the assertiveness and determination of the paretns I have spoken
to will enable me to refute the prescence of 'LH' within the
parent-professional interaction.
