Hello All,
Still recovering from SDS. . .
I'm sitting here with exactly one week left to research and write a paper
for a class on John Dewey. I'm throwing this out on the list in the hopes
that I might get lucky - I'm not altogether inclined to switch tracks from
disabiltiy theory to plain old JohnDewey and epistemology, and am trying
to figure out a way to do a paper on disability theory and Dewey. Aside
from his theory of education and principles of integration, does any one
know of articles of books dealing with Dewey and disability or otherwise
related? I've found one article by Loretta Kopelman, "Bioethics and
Humanities: What Makes Us One Field?" which deals with interdisciplinarity
of bioethics and approaches Dewey's work as a tool to make students better
problem solvers. This is the closest I've managed to come on Dewey and
disability. Unfortunately, this is up the education alley that I can't
use as yet.
Alternatively, I've also found "Merleau-Ponty and Dewey on
the 'Mind-Body' Question," which deals with issues of the body on both
philosopher's works, but not the disabled body. While I can make do with
these and a number of other subsidiary articles, I'm keeping my fingers
crossed that someone will have a better reference . . .
Many thanks,
Alexa Schriempf
