Dear Gavin, Susan, ICGG list members, Crit'ers and LeftGeog members,
There seems to be growing interest in some kind of 'merger' between the
Critical Geography Forum and the LeftGeog list. The co-moderators of the
CGF are currently discussing some of the issues involved with a possible
'merger' with LeftGeog. Once we have identified any issues of concern,
we will report these to CGF list members and ask you all for direction at
that time.
My personal feeling is that some kind of coalition between the CGF and
LeftGeog would be desireable... although I also suspect there is a good
deal of overlap in membership already.
LeftGeog is the listserv for the Socialist Geography Study Group of the
AAG, and this may pose some 'problems' in terms of the ability of a
merged list to serve the specific requirements of the study group.
Perhaps one solution would be for list administrators to
'cross-subscribe' the lists such that postings to one list are
automatically sent to the other. At this stage, I am not certain that
this option is technically possible, but we shall investigate further.
Another issue to be aware of revolves around the International Critical
Geography Group mailing list. This was set up as a separate list to
serve the communications requirements of the newly formed International
Critical Geography Group (which arose from the Inaugural International
Conference of Critical Geography in Vancouver). At the time the ICGG
list was set up, it was felt a separate list would better serve members
from non-Anglo backgrounds. However, the ICGG list has very few members
and it may be necessary to make some changes in order to better
disseminate ICGG information (especially about the 2nd International
Conference of Critical Geography in Taegu, Korea)
If CGF members have any comments, questions or concerns, please send them
to the list for discussion.
Best wishes,
Lawrence
