I've just been reading an article by Lilian Ross in this week's New Yorker.
EH was living in Cuba and suffering from what she refers to as 'the
terrible heat'. He wrote to her 'Did you ever read any of those stories
about India and the summer heat when the Monsoon has failedand people go
heat nutty and take a rifle out of the racks and shoot somebody in
barracks? It has been that hot day and night.' It sounds as though he is
recalling Love o' Women.
