Can anyone help Max Browne with the following?
------- Forwarded message follows -------
We are investigating a Tidal Mill (as yet undated but medieval or earlier)
If you have any information which would help us interpret what we are seeing
I would like to discuss it with you. I need information on the power needed
to drive millstones of various dimensions and also about the efficiency of
early water turbines. We are looking at an orifice delivering 80 litres per
second at 5.75 m/sec. The millstones are quite small, being about 800 mm
diametre. None of the original wooden turbine remains, but the orifice is
sandstone and it is clear where the horizontal wheel would have been located.
Is this something which you know about?
Many thanks
Max Browne
