Hi everyone
I am preparing to go on fieldwork as part of my PhD research at the
National Centre for Development Studies at the Australian National
University here in Canberra. My topic is tentatively titled "Reformers'
Understandings of Civil Service Administration Reform in Thailand".
I plan to interview around 30 or 40 civil servants in the Royal Thai
Government and am considering using Nud*ist4 and/or NVivo. I hope to tape
record most interviews and possibly transcribe (dread the task) them for N4
or NVivo sorting and analysis. One possibility is that I might like to use
Thai script. The Thai version of Windows 95/98 allows applications to
display Thai script on PCs.
QUESTION: Will N4 and NVivo have a problem with Thai scripts used in text
or RTF files?
I may bypass this by not transcribing the interviews (whew!) and
summarising them in English. I could then input the summaries into
N4/NVivo and include lots of suitable quotes from the interviews to give
them "voice". I could use a latin script to transcribe these quotes and
avoid Thai script.
QUSTION: Does anyone on this list have tips for first year apprentice
researchers like myself wanting to use non Latin scripts in N$NVivo?
This is a great list with a very nice tone. I appreciate everyone's
kindness and thoughfulness. Thank you all.
