Kevin,
I read your message with interest, shock, horror and a few other emotions
too. When they had subsided somewhat I thought of a few things.
I am assuming from your e-mail that you are in the UK and that you are
working under CSP guidelines.
I believe that the compulsion to get "permission" from nurses to conduct
treatment which is within your sphere of practice could be illegal as there
is legislation whose purpose is to stop restrictive practice. That is a
person or persons who stop you from doing that for which you have been
employed and has been used by professional sportsmen who have been kept out
of team, when fit, because the club do not wish to "chance" the player who
is on the transfer list.
Your contract may be of some help as it should give you indications as to
your tasks during employment and it should describe activities in relation
to those covered by the respective professional body ie CSP whose charter
specifically includes those treatments in which you have had recognised
training. If this is the case then they have changed your contractural terms
which is not legal without your agreement.
I have concentrated upon the legal and left the moral/professional because I
can feel a "Red Haze" coming on. Two questions which immediately occur to me
are, who is your top level manager, are they asleep? and what did the CSP
say when you informed them of this?
Please let me know, I hope you are not the manager <grin>
Mick
