Dear Friends,
Since the winding up of DPI Australia, a group of people with
disabilities from the some of
previous State base organisations along with other groups and
individuals have been working
toward setting up a new National Organisation which can represent all
individuals and
organisations with different types of disabilities here in Australia and
to which they can join.
This new organisation is Disability Australia;

Characteristics of Disability Australia
1. Any person with a disability or Organisation OF(run and controlled
by) people with disabilities
can be a voting member.
2. There is no limit to the number of individuals or organisations who
can join.
3. The National Council and National Executive must have equal numbers
of women and men.
4. The grass roots membership elect the National Council, National
President and International
Representatives.
5. The grass roots membership can discuss and formulate policies and
strategic plans through
the National Assembly.
6. Any non disabled person or organisation FOR(not run and controlled

disabilities can join as an Associate (non-voting) member.
Disability Australia will advocate on the issues brought to us by or of
concern to our members
and seek to work very closely with the existing local, regional, state
and national organisations
to achieve social justice, equal opportunity and integration for all
people with disabilities and
their families.
I would encourage all people with disabilities and their organisations
particularly with psychiatric,
intellectual and multiple disabilities to join with us for the long
fight ahead.
If you have any questions you can reply to me through this mailing list
