Letter of Invitation for Expression of Interest to a Disability Publication
We are inviting disabled people and those who may work in collaboration
with disabled people to contribute to a forthcoming publication about the
changing experience of disability in NSW over the last quarter of this
century. This is an edited work based on the 'telling stories' project
which is funded by the Disability Council of NSW.
Specifically, we are inviting expressions of interest from those who have
knowledge and interest and could author a chapter in that section of the
publication entitled ' Social power in personal lives'. This section will
contain 4 chapters each covering one of the 4 Social Perspectives as set
out. In summary, expressions of interest would need to do the following,
and meet the following criteria.
- written expression of interest of about 500 words on 1 of the 4 topics-
Social Perspective 1- Cultural representation and the media
Social Perspective 2- Technology and its use and abuse
Social Perspective 3- Access and its social and political dimensions
Social Perspective 4- The politics of care
OR
another which is demonstrably related to (or reflects on) the changing
interests of disabled people in the period (an eg might be integration in
the education system and the relevant social/policy issues or another the
legal/advocacy issues of the period).
- contributors should be from within Australia and be disabled or could do
a chapter in collaboration with a non disabled contributor
-the expression of interest should demonstrate ability to research and
write on the proposed topic and contributors should see their work in the
context of the project overall, that is, it would be supported and guided
by the editorial process as part of the overall edited work.
-expressions of interest should be submitted by no later than Friday June
18th, 1999 to-

You should include a (hard) copy and a disk copy format to ensure that it
is accessible to reviewers who may have a range of disabilities.
Expressions of Interest should clearly show name of author(s), address, and
other contact details on A SEPARATE COVER SHEET and there should be NO
PERSONAL IDENTIFIERS ON THE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST ITSELF.
Expressions of interest will be considered by a small group of reviewers
with the guidance of the project coordinator. Reviewers will not know the
identity of contributors. The overall editorial responsibility as part of
the developing publication will be that of Mike Clear of the Faculty of
Social Inquiry University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury.
Those who submit an expression of interest will receive written feedback
based on the review process. It is anticipated that a decision about the
most suitable authors will be made by the end of June or early July and
authors would have until the end of October (about 4 months) to complete
chapter drafts. The size of a chapter is expected to be approximately 6,000
words.
We look forward to contributions and if you require further information
