Hi Lisa,
I was previously a sports massage therapist, and vice principal in one of the better schools in Sweden. We taught sports massage, which is a bit different from other massage techniques in that it is more physical than ordinary massage.
I suggest that you check out the curriculums of the various courses. In my experience, most schools who teach "healing" and a lot of "relaxation techniques" (with dimmed lights and Vivaldi and wave sounds in the background), are not what you are looking for. Especially if you want to work with sports people.
Check for the schools that teach more theoretical subjects, such as basic anatomy, physiology, pathology, and sports medicine etc. Most schools who teach sports massage specify it in their course curriculum. Exclude the ones who do not. This will probably narrow down your options considerably.
When I was involved in teaching sports massage therapy, it was customary for people who were interested in signing up for the course to come and visit the school. In this way everyone knew exactly what he/she was paying for. I suggest that you do the same.

Hello,
I am currently looking into doing a course in Sports Massage, with a view
to working firstly part time, and hopefully full time in this field, and
the wider field of sports therapy.
I have found a number of courses in sports massage across the country, the
London School of Sports Massage, the Academy of Sports Therapy at
Middlesex University, and the Active Foundation in Birmingham. As there is
no standardising body, I am having trouble finding out which course is the
best, or most recognised, or if there is no difference between the three!
If anyone has any information regarding which courses are recommended, or
know of other people to contact, then I would be grateful for any advice.
Thank you,
Lisa
